Bring your drift car, bring a jacket, and get ready for some old-school street-racing flavor: introducing StreetStyle RC Drift Competiiton! We're taking "Midnight Club" to a different level with an unsanctioned, unofficial, "heads-up" drift competition under the night sky! Brought to you by RC DriftClub and Team DriftNutz, this event goes back to the roots of street competition, where the rules were thin, there was no such thing as qualifying, and the bragging rights and prestige of winning were more important than just a prize (even if we'll have prizes!). Forget about best of show, forget about early morning drives - we're doing this one at night, and all that matters is who battles who for the "Kings of the Streets"!

UPDATES
11.18.09 Updated info for the "Group Runoff" and "Main Event" section

11.16.09 Depending on how quickly we get through qualifying, we may switch from a conventional single-elimination format to a "Best-8 Double Elimination" bracket; In other words, lose in Best-16, and you're done. The "double-elimination" part doesn't kick in until Best-8.

Event

From the Los Angeles Area:
Take the 101 west/north to the 170 north to the 5 north to the 210 east, exit Yarnell St. Make a right from Yarnell onto Foothill and a right onto Balboa. Track will be on the right hand side toward the top of the hill.

From the Santa Monica Area:
Take the 405 north to the 5 north to the 210 East. Follow above directions.

From the West Valley Area:
Take the 118 West, exit Balboa. Turn left (north) on Balboa and head over to Foothill. Continue past Foothill and track will be on your left hand side.

Rules/Info
1. Make a note of the times - there's no misprint, it is P.M. as in night time darkness.
2. No power provided, no pit area available. Charge before you arrive, your trunk is your pit table.
3. Open class only, electric-powered only, standard or countersteer accepted.
4. No body limit - except keep it real (no TC racing crap!)
5. No motor limit - whatever's in your car, that's what you run. Swap if necessary.
6. No tire limit, just the usual drift tires (HPI/Tamiya/Yokomo/ABS no rubber)
7. Lights are highly recommended since, you know, it's night time.
8. Bring your own parts. There is no hobby shop on-site, let alone a local one that's open this late.
9. No Alcohol, no drugs, no bullsh*t. Respect your peers, no bitching, be cool.
10. We reserve the right to change any event specifics without prior notice.

Event Prizes
Bragging rights and prizes for Best-4; prizes provided by RC DriftClub

Event Entry Fees / Event Info
1. Open class
2. Max Out Contest
3. Maximum entry limit of 24 drivers.
4. Entry fee is $10, paid at arrival.
5. Cold or warm, rain or shine, it's game on.
6. There will be no refunds, credits, or transfers on any paid entries.
7. If the event is ended early (due to neighbors, cops) then it ends early, that's it.

STREET STYLE QUALIFYING
Qualifying will be "street style" with up to 8 cars on the track. Each group of drivers will be allowed time on the track, and we will be calling drivers at random to qualify. A section of the track will be marked off and designated as the "qualifying area." When your name is called, you will be required to attack the qualifying area (one max out, one apex) the next time you drive by. You will be judged on four details:

A. "Max Out" proximity to the wall
B. How tight you drift the apex
C. Entry speed
D. Smoothness of drifting

Make a note - all qualifying will be done WITH TRAFFIC so it's at your discretion how to time your attack AND it's up to the non-qualifying drivers' discretion if they want to get OUT OF YOUR WAY!

GROUP RUNOFF
After qualifying the drivers will be split into the following:
1-15: bracket competition
16-24: group run-off

The group run-off goes first. All drivers #16-#24 will hit the track and drift in sequence, and will have to run the qualifying line. Any mistakes will result in an elimination. After one lap, the course will be modified to raise the challenge i.e. Max Out line will be tighter, and Apex will be tighter. Again, any mistakes will result in an elimination. We will continue this process until one driver is left, and this driver will earn the #16 spot in the main bracket. Mistakes will include the usual stuff (crashing, spinning, stalling) and the judges be looking for bad lines, low speeds, etc. To survive the run-off and make the last spot in the main bracket, you'll have to earn it by drifting around the course consistently with no errors.

STREET STYLE MAIN EVENT
The main bracket will be a Best-16, with a Best-8 DOUBLE ELIMINATION format. In other words:

if you lose your first match in Best-16, you are eliminated.
If you win your first battle in Best-16 to make it into the double format, and from that point on will have you lose twice in order to be eliminated.

Because of the differences from a "normal" event, judging will be modified. For example, because it's night time, it won't be easy to see any minor car-to-car contact, thus there will be no penalty for car-to-car contact WITHIN REASON. In other words, two cars drifting side by side and tapping doors? Not a problem. One car hitting another car causing a crash or a spin? PROBLEM. The judges will have final say on any/all incidents, so we suggest that you drive as aggressively as possible!

MAX OUT CONTEST
After the main bracket is done, we'll be doing a Max Out contest. All cars on the track, all cars do a Max Out. Anyone who crashes is eliminated. We'll be adjusting the track lane to be narrower and narrower with each cycle, so the Max Out will get tougher and tougher the longer you survive. Last driver standing wins.

yeah, come through dude, we just all have to remember to keep it cool and low key to not draw too much attention to ourselves. we will be directing everyone where to park upon arrival so we don't mess with MB2's parking and not disturb their customers. other than that it's on like konkey dong!! :gj:
