BC Raceway in Orange County was the host location for RC DriftClub’s “Drift Showdown” Round 2, held on April 22nd, 2007. There was a storm a day or two before the event, and the skies were still cloudy during driver check-in. During concourse, rain drops started coming down! However, after 4 minutes, the drops stopped and the first qualifying session began. Drivers in both Class-A and Class-B adapted to the group qualifying format, which lined up all the cars in pit lane, going one by one to try to place in the battle bracket. With the sun peeking in and out through the clouds, it made for drastically changing conditions on the track surface, making the course warm and with more bite for some qualifying drivers, then cool and slick for others within seconds.

This car is the car that made me a Nissan faithful (yes I drive a Lexus. It’s only temporary.) The R32 now gets reborn again by HPI Racing. 200mm width works with the offsets.

Round 1
Location: Speedtech RC

The start of qualifying for Round 1 was delayed due to the time it took to get through signups, but once that was taken care of, qualifying began and it seemed like a lot of drivers were trying to adjust to an actual gate, as opposed to cones. This was also the first time we ran the track in the rear of the building as opposed to the front, but that didn’t seem like it affected much, as the surface was still as consistent as the original location.
