V. Twin Battle
RC DriftClub’s “Drift Showdown” championship points series, “Streetstyle” competitions, and other events sanctioned by RC DriftClub will all adhere to a universal rule set as listed below. All RC DriftClub events will follow these official rules.
Twin Battle Rules
The top 16 drivers in each class will be placed in a single-elimination bracket. In the event that there are less than 16, certain drivers (the higher-seeded drivers, in order) may receive a “by run” (automatic advance to the next bracket level) in order to accommodate the bracket layout. Qualifying zones no longer apply during twin battle – but the qualifying line does. This means that both drivers must drift the same line as in qualifying in order to score well. In the event that there are more than 16 drivers in a class, the driver who qualified in the 16th spot will have to compete in a sub-bracket with the remainder of the drivers in order to determine the 16th and final spot in the main bracket.
A. Twin Battle Overview
In twin battle, two drivers in each bracket will run the course together. The higher-seeded driver (driver 1) will lead the lower-seeded driver (driver 2) for the first judged battle. A lap-by-lap run-through of a battle is as follows:
1. Warm-Up: Both drivers will start with a warm-up lap in Best-16.
2. For all battles beyond Best-16, a warm-up lap will only be granted if one or both of the drivers did not have a previous warm-up lap during twin battle (for example, drivers who may have had a bye run for the first round are still allowed their warm-up lap once they are on the track).
B. Battle Laps
1. Lap 1 Position: Competing drivers will line up so that the higher seeded driver is in the lead position. The other driver (in chase position) may line up no farther than 2 feet behind the lead driver. When both vehicles are lined up it is assumed that both drivers are ready to battle, and the first lap will begin once the judges signal “go.”
2. Lap 1 Completion: A judged lap is complete when both drivers cross the finish line at the end of one lap of battle. The drivers should NOT take another lap around the course until instructed so by the judges.
3. Lap 1 Scoring: At the conclusion of lap 1, the judges will review the lap and announce the lap 1 score, and which driver has the score advantage going into lap 2.
4. Lap 2 Position: After the announcement of the first lap score, drivers will switch positions and line up so that the lower seeded driver is in the lead position. The other driver (in chase position) may line up no farther than 2 feet behind the lead driver. When both vehicles are lined up it is assumed that both drivers are ready to battle, and the second lap will begin once the judges signal “go.”
5. Lap 2 Completion: A judged lap is complete when both drivers cross the finish line at the end of one lap of battle. The drivers should NOT take another lap around the course, but should also not remove their vehicle from the track in the event that the judges call for a “sudden death” battle.
6. Lap 2 Scoring: At the conclusion of lap 2, the judges will review the lap and announce the lap 2 score. The driver with the highest score (combined laps 1 and 2 scores) will win the battle.
C. “Sudden Death”
1. “Sudden Death” Definition: In the event of a tie, there will be “Sudden Death” battle in which the tied drivers will do another scored pair of laps.
2. Battle Method: Lap 1 and 2 will go exactly the same as the previous tied laps (section B, above).
3. Sudden Death Judging: Judging will be the same as the regular battle. However, Sudden Death scores will not be combined with the regular twin battle scores; in other words, the two laps of Sudden Death battle will be scored on their own.
D. “Do or Die”
1. “Do or Die” Definition: In the event that a winner cannot be determined after regular Twin Battle and two Sudden Death Battles, the drivers will compete in “Do or Die” mode.
2. Battle Method: In Do or Die, competing drivers will line up so that the higher seeded driver is in the lead position. The other driver (in chase position) may line up no farther than 2 feet behind the lead driver. When both vehicles are lined up it is assumed that both drivers are ready to battle, and the lap will begin once the judges signal “go.” Unlike regular Twin battle and Sudden Death, “Do or Die” is only a ONE LAP battle.
2. Lap Completion: The judged lap is complete when both drivers cross the finish line at the end of one lap of battle. The drivers should NOT take another lap around the course unless instructed so by the judges.
3. Lap Scoring: At the conclusion of the lap, the judges will review, and announce a winner. If the lap is judged even or in favor of the Chase car, “Do or Die” is repeated.
